The Detection Dogs USA training program focuses on the relationship between the K-9 and handler.  With any relationship, clear communication and distinct boundaries need to be established so the dog and the handler understand each other.  Detection Dogs USA teaches handlers how to clearly communicate with K-9s in a way they naturally understand.  We teach our handlers how to read the feedback that dogs are giving so that distinct boundaries or space can be given for the K9 to excel.

Before any training sessions, it is important to ensure that the handler and the dog are both in the right frame of mind to learn from each other.  Let’s face it, if one of the partners in the relationship isn’t in the right frame of mind to work, the training message won’t get across or the feedback from the other will not be properly read; everyone will get frustrated.  Detection Dogs USA helps handlers understand how to prepare their K9s for success and also teaches them the signs dogs transmit under stress to ensure handlers place their K9s in the right frame of mind during training or work so each session is maximized.

Detection Dogs USA works together with the handler or dog owner to understand their training goals and objectives so that a systematic training methodology can be established for success.  As the team progresses through the training program and the pressure progressively increases, they must rely on the relationship and communication skills they have learned.  This requires more focus from both the handler and K9.  By incrementally increasing the pressure and intensity of the training, the handler and K9 learn to trust each other; alleviating fearful responses while the team successfully performs the increasingly more difficult tasks.
